Not an option...Not all doctors support it...Search for possible gunman
Posted: 10/5/2009

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House says leaving Afghanistan is not an option that President Barack Obama is considering. Obama is undertaking a thorough review of the U.S. policy in the war that is about to enter its ninth year. Spokesman Robert Gibbs says it's clear that the United States cannot simply withdraw. Obama's considering whether to send as many as 40,000 more U.S. troops to Afghanistan.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The doctors who gathered in the White House Rose Garden today -- about 150 of them from all 50 states -- are supporters of President Barack Obama's health care reform plan. But opponents are quick to point out that not all medical professionals agree with them. Republican Sen. John Barrasso of Wyoming -- an orthopedic surgeon -- says many doctors, nurses and patients are strongly opposed to Obama's proposals.

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — University of South Florida police are searching for a possible gunman at the school's Tampa campus. An alert posted on USF's Web site says people on the Tampa campus should stay inside and lock doors while officers search the area.

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras (AP) — The interim leaders of Honduras say they'll be restoring by tomorrow the civil rights that were taken away by an emergency decree. The rulers had banned large street protests and put limits on other civil liberties after the return of the country's ousted president to Honduras. Dozens of people were arrested.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — The NAACP is registering voters at prisons in Maine, which is one of just two states that allow all inmates to vote while behind bars. It's apparently the nation's first such statewide drive aimed at prison inmates. The focus isn't just on black inmates.
