Arrest Made in Attack and Rape of Grand Traverse County Woman » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (2)
The man accused of attacking and raping a Grand Traverse County woman is now locked up.
Police arrested Charles Kovary Thursday morning after tracking him down for two days. The victim identified Kovary as one of the three attackers who broke into her home on Karlin Road in Interlochen early Tuesday morning. The victim says all three men wore disguises, but she recognized Kovary's voice -- the man she says raped her. "The suspect was a dangerous person, and it was very important to do whatever we could to find him and arrest him," says Tom Bensley, Grand Traverse County Sheriff. The sheriff says Kovary is considered an acquaintance of the victim. Police no longer believe this is a random act, but still don't understand the motive. After working around the clock for more than two days, a team of officers made their move. They arrested Kovary without incident as he left his home Thursday. Police say Kovary has not admitted to any of the charges. And this is not the first time Kovary has been in trouble with the law. He has a long criminal history, including a home invasion where police say he attempted to sexually assault the home owner.
