Students have been back in the classroom for more than a month now and still Michigan schools are without a finalized budget as the state continues to debate cutting $218 per student.
At Manton Schools in Wexford County, they took a proactive approach this summer when they created their budget. They started the school year with three fewer teachers and made $70,000 worth of cuts, reducing every major area of the district to some degree.
The Superintendent says that will help them manage the cuts if the state approves them for this year.
As 9&10's Kalee Iacoangeli and photojournalist Chivon Kloepfer report, it's next year that the Superintendent fears the most.
