Posted: 9/25/2009

PITTSBURGH (AP) — The leaders of France, Britain and the United States are warning Iran that it'll be "held accountable" unless it comes clean about its nuclear ambitions. The statements at the G-20 economic summit in Pittsburgh came after the disclosure that Iran had kept a secret nuclear facility hidden from weapons inspectors.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities in Pittsburgh are bracing for scattered protests today at dozens of businesses and organizations. The protests are planned to coincide with the G-20 summit taking place in the city. Yesterday, riot police turned back hundreds of demonstrators and arrested nearly 70 people.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi authorities have detained more than 100 prison officials and guards, in connection with the prison escape by 16 inmates -- including five with links to al-Qaida who were awaiting execution. The escape from the makeshift prison in Saddam Hussein's hometown was the latest in a series of embarrassing security lapses in Iraq.

BOSTON (AP) — A Massachusetts assistant attorney general has moved to dismiss a case in which the state Republican Party is trying to block the swearing-in of Sen. Edward Kennedy's interim replacement. The state says in a court filing that Gov. Deval Patrick was within his authority to appoint Paul Kirk and make the appointment effective immediately.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are falling in early trading after a worse-than-expected report on durable goods orders dampened hopes for a strong economic recovery. Investors were disappointed to hear that durable goods orders unexpectedly fell in August. The second decline in three months shows any rebound in manufacturing is likely to be slow.
