Benzie County inmate found hanged in jail cell

BEULAH, Mich. (AP) — The Benzie County Sheriff's Department is investigating the death of an inmate who hung himself in his jail cell.
The department says in a statement that the 49-year-old county resident was found hanging in his cell about 4:30 p.m. Friday. Jail staff performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead at Paul Oliver Hospital in Frankfort.
The man's name was not immediately released.
Beulah is 20 miles southwest of Traverse City in northwest Lower Michigan.
