Family Walks Out of Home Explosion in Presque Isle County
Posted: 8/6/2009

A Presque Isle County family escaped a burning home after an explosion.

It happened around eight Thursday morning in Bismarck Township.

Fire tore through the home, destroying it. The Rogers City Fire Department says the explosion likely happened when someone tried to light a kerosene heater.

Neighbors say the family of four walked down the road to their home for help. They say the father took the brunt of the explosion with burns to his hands and face.

They could also see a child was hurt. The neighbors say the father recounted what happened.

"He said the children were watching TV, and he was very upset at the fact that the explosion was so big, it burned one of the children who was in the living room," Frank Zeld, neighbor, said.

The fire department said three people went to the hospital with possible burns. The fire is still under investigation.

9&10's Jodi Hathaway and photojournalist Joel Deaner have more on how the neighbors helped the family.
