WASHINGTON (AP) — People briefed on the plans say the Obama administration wants to place federal employees in the largest immigration detention facilities to monitor detainee treatment. Private contractors currently handle that oversight. ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) — Former Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson is out on bond while he awaits his sentencing. A jury in suburban Washington convicted him today of taking bribes in a case in which $90,000 was found in his freezer. The New Orleans Democrat said he's "holding up" after the verdict was read. His attorney says he plans to appeal. BRIDGEVILLE, Pa. (AP) — For months, George Sodini complained online about his frustration with women and wrote about using guns to carry out his "exit plan" at his Pennsylvania health club. Yesterday, police say, he put that plan into action. Authorities say Sodini shot and killed three women and wounded nine others during a class at the club before committing suicide. YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Officials say nearly 1 million people visited Yellowstone National Park last month, an all-time record for America's first national park. Officials credit cheaper gas prices and the park's affordability.
