Two Ohio men have drowned in separate accidents in Cheboygan County this weekend.
The first happened Saturday around four p.m. in Lake Huron off Mackinaw township. Cheboygan County deputies got a call that a man was missing, last seen about 100 feet off shore from Mill Creek campground. Two other people had been on a raft with 35 year old Randy Loper of Middletown, Ohio when the raft capsized in heavy winds. The two were able to swim back to shore. Loper's body was found only about 20 feet from shore by the Mackinaw City Fire Department. The victim was not wearing a life jacket. The second incident happened Sunday morning shortly before nine o'clock, when a canoe capsized in Burt Lake in Burt township. A neighbor heard 45 year old James Durfee of Toledo yell for help, and took a jet ski out to the area, but couldn't find him. The Cheboygan County dive team was called in and eventually found Durfee in about 10 feet of water, 200 feet from shore. He, too, was not wearing a life jacket.
