SPECIAL REPORT: Jobs at Sea » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (11)
Living in a state surrounded by water, you would think more people would consider a career on the Great Lakes.
Surprisingly, that's not the case. In fact, many people don't know anything about the maritime industry -- an industry that appears to be growing. Despite the slow shipping business right now because of the economy, some studies suggest the industry could double or even triple in the next ten years. Today, 115 cadets are enrolled at the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, but there's room for 200. So, where is everyone? "The common theme that we hear form people is we didn't know this existed, this program, the Great Lakes Maritime Academy, or even this type of career," says John Tanner, Superintendent of the Academy. 9&10's Ryan Raiche and Photojournalist Jeremy Erickson have this special report: "Jobs at Sea."
