An Emmet County man is accused of attacking a woman and holding her against her will.

Deputies say the attack happened last Thursday in Brutus.

The woman was trying to leave her home when police say Zachary Elya assaulted her. They say Elya pinned her down, took her cell phone and broke it in half.

She then went back into the home where Elya threatened to kill himself.

When she tried to leave again, police say he choked her and held her until she managed to get away.

Elya is charged with several crimes and could spend at least 15 years in prison if he is found guilty.
