  I volunteer at the kaleva elementary every day for lunch. tuesday,wednesday, friday in my daughters class room. when they move over there. i won't be able to volunteer my time. i live walking distance now. they will lose alot of parent volunteers.

  What is going to happen to the buildings? Are they going to just sit there and rot or are they (the school board) going to use them for something else? Sell them...?? Who is going to buy an old school... come one... Keep the kids where they are... write some grants to help with the money issues... there is PLENTY of money out via grants... BIG... HUGE mistake!!!

  The people who are so against this should come up with an idea as to how they can raise almost a half a million dollars. The money is not there and the school is doing the only responsible thing. Take a look at Onekama and Bear Lake..they have K-12 in one building. Is it that bad? Many schools in Michigan have resorted to cutting many sports programs, or requiring students to pay $50-$100 (or more) to participate. I can imagine how upset people would be about that. Maybe that should be a way to save some money.. After all, education comes first.

  This is an upsetting thing, but I am trying to see the positive side of it, like the fact that now all of my kids will be in ONE school, no more driving around from here to there for all their events. This will also be a wonderful boost to students moral who participate in sports and other activities, for now more families will be able attend to show their support. There are some minuses to this change, but many more pluses. Also, this will follow suit to other already consolidated schools in the county, and those schools can and DO offer more because of it.

  As a parent, I am willing to stay at the KND school district. Our kids will have the same quality of an education, same teaching staff, and same friends. People get a clue, have you seen the news. Michigan is not doing well. By putting the schools together in one building the kids will eventually have MORE than they do now! I want more for my kids! My kids are above average students who have been given a great education here at KND.

  I grew up in Brethren and attended Kaleva Elementary. I hate to see both Kaleva & Wellston schools closing. As a parent, I do not think it is wise to have 5 yrs olds on buses with high school kids - that's asking for trouble. Little kids should not be exposed to many of the things that the 'bigger' kids say/do on a bus - not to mention them all being in the same building all day long. Again, I am very saddened by this. Those elementary schools were - at times - the ONLY places in Kaleva & Wellston with any "LIFE" in them. It's a sad day for the KND school district and the children that go there.

  Your dollars go with your child... for everyone that leaves and goes to Manistee there goes your tax dollars........think about it how can we be proud of our school and our community...if we ship or kids to another......

  Than they should of revised their busing ..... did you know that they run two buses down the same road in the afternoon once for Elem.... and once for the High School...... Maybe that would of been the place to start....

  In case some people have just realized, the state doesn't give more money to schools in bigger districts. In other words, based on miles KND is one of the biggest school districts in Michigan. The cost of running busses from north of Kaleva and to Irons is very expensive day after day. Also, when enrollment drops, the state gives you a lot less money per student. Expenses outweigh the income and that is why times are tough at KND.

  the schools have already lost many kids to other area districts, like Manistee,and this decision with result in even more loss. KND is a great place for my kids, but they are making it harder and harder for those of us who want to stay, to stay. Where are our tax dollars going if not to the school district?
