Recovering Through Weatherization: Here's How It Happens » View Picture » Play Video » Feedback (0)
Michigan is going to receive more than $300 million from the federal recovery act to make homes more energy efficient.
The first of the money is scheduled to begin flowing to the Michigan Community Action Agency after Apr. 1. The money will then be parceled out to local Action Agencies to weatherize local homes. It's all part of an overarching goal from the Obama administration to save homeowners money and protect the environment. The money is also expected to create jobs with local contractors. From windows to doors and leaky furnaces, weatherization inspectors will be checking out homes to see where upgrades can be made. The Mid-Michigan Community Action Agency already weatherizes about 200 homes a year. With the stimulus funds, they believe that will double to at least 400 homes while the funding lasts. The organization expects to receive about $7.5 million over the next three years. 9&10's Michael Kasiborski and photojournalist Stephanie Adkins examine how the weatherization process begins.
