Two men from Charlevoix are now bonded for life after one gave the other the ultimate gift. David Wilks donated a kidney to Christian "Buff" Vrondran who was on dialysis and dealing with kidney failure. The two men met 16 years ago and have a lot of experiences in the books, but nothing like this. When David found out he was a match, he made arrangements to give up a kidney. The surgery happened September 9, Christian's 32nd birthday. Donations to support the men can be made at Charlevoix State Bank in care of Caytee Scott-Vrondran. This will help supplement income since the men are unable to work right now and also help cover travel expenses for follow-up visits to U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor. 9&10's Christina Vecchioni and photojournalist Joel Deaner have more details on this special friendship.
