Slowing economy?...Army suicides...Online security

WASHINGTON (AP) — Many experts expect Friday's report on second-quarter growth to show the economy has slowed at an annual rate of 2.5 percent instead of the 2.7 percent in the first quarter. It would be the second straight quarter of slowing growth, and would mean unemployment is likely to remain high.

WASHINGTON (AP) — A report on the increase in Army suicides says the Army is failing its soldiers as they deal with repeated deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. There were 160 suicides in the Army last year. A top general says statistics suggest soldiers are taking more risks, and that discipline has slipped.

WASHINGTON (AP) — New York Congressman Charles Rangel appears headed for a trial before the House Ethics Committee after it accused him of 13 violations, including failure to report thousands in income and assets. A plea deal was said to be in the works, but Republicans on the committee indicate it's too late.

WASHINGTON (AP) — An aviation safety bill prompted by the crash of a commuter airliner in Buffalo, N.Y., almost a year and a-half ago has cleared the House. It would, among other things, force airlines to hire more experienced pilots and train them better. The Senate is expected to pass the bill Friday.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Online connections with banks and retailers may not be as secure as you thought. Researchers say they've found ways hackers could sniff around the edges of encrypted Internet traffic for clues that could lead then to valuable information. Wi-Fi connections are said to be especially vulnerable.
