6/18/2010 - fuel (Resident - Lewiston)I have to say..My husband and I chose to run on fumes and risk running out of fuel before we would stop at a BP. If it was for a drink or snacks we would have stopped..but NO WAY am I supporting BP! They disgust me..To me, when I see BP on a sign, that's what fuel I am purchasing..get your fuel some where else and we'll stop next time!

6/18/2010 - BP and refinery's (m. - mt pleasant)seems that then the old refinery in alma was running, you seen every gas company in there filling tanks rather it was standard, shell, BP, Marathon, they all filled out of the same place! I dont think blaming local businesses is going to help anything but run our local families out of jobs, means more unemployment, more goverment assistance programs. At this rate this country nore this state can take to many more setbacks due to job loss.

6/16/2010 - "Using our Heads" (Katherine - Traverse City)Everyone has valid claims here. However, I have to agree with the Kalkaska citizen. If B.P. files for bankruptcy, it would be them letting their employees down-not the everyday consumers. I think everyone "understands" that it is not the fault of the small business owners and yes, it is unfortunate that they are unable to magically undo their logo. However, I understand and am in total agreeance with withholding my business from them. Everyone has their own way of dealing with this disaster and it's pretty obvious that nobody is changing anybody elses mind any time soon.

6/16/2010 - BP (Ann - Traverse City)There is no question that BP was at fault for not fixing this problem before it became what it is. But again, the clerk behind the counter trying to feed their family and support our economy didn't call BP and tell them to ignore this problem. Again, everyone will be affected by this. The employees, their children etc etc. Instead of pointing fingers and arguing back and forth, if you have a brilliant idea to fix this then speak up. And as it was stated before, a business that is aligned with another major business, independent or otherwise, can't just back out of a contract. Get informed before you make an outrageous opinion. Dumping a business agreement is not as simple as you may think.
•
6/16/2010 - BP (Ann - Traverse City)Use your heads, putting the employees of our local BP stations is NOT going to stop the unfortunate disaster now. The employees in our local area did not cause this disaster, they will be affected by this disaster as much as the rest of us. Have you no common sense that adding to our welfare line is not going to fix this problem? That's about as ridiculous as believing the President can don a dive suit and stick a finger in the gaping hole and stop the flow.
•
6/16/2010 - How can you claim that B.P. is not @ Fault? (Sick about it - Kalkaska)Again, we have discoved that B.P. was aware that their was an issue prior to the leak. Unfortunatly, instead of looking into it- they continued to extract oil for their own ($) selfish profit. Are you aware they are still making a daily profit even though they are spending so much on fixing the problem that originated from them?? If they bail (file for bankruptcy) that doesn't mean they ran out of money. It means they are only concerned with thier own pockets. They would be the ones letting their employees down-not me. I am thinking-try it sometime. It really makes sense....

6/16/2010 - AGREE WITH DYNA (JENNA - GAYLORD)EVEN THOUGH THE SITUATION IN THE GULF IS TERRIBLE AND I KNOW OUR CHILDREN'S CHILDREN WILL BE FEELING THE AFFECTS OF THIS, I DON'T THINK A BOYCOTT IS THE ANSWER. ALMOST ALL OF NORTHERN MICHIGAN'S OIL COMES FROM 1-2 DISTRIBUTERS AND A BOYCOTT ONLY HURTS THE LOCALS. THEY WILL SELL ELSEWHERE. AND WHEN IT COMES TO PAYING CLAIMS FROM ALL THE PEOPLE BP OWES MONEY IN THE GULF NOW AND ALSO THE CLEANUP...BOYCOTT DOESN'T SEEM LIKE A WISE CHOICE. ALSO SHOULDN'T THE ACTUALL OWNERS OF THE RIG HOLD SOME RESPONSIBILITY? WHEN YOU RENT OR LEASE SOMETHING, DOESN'T THE LANDLORD HOLD RESPONIBILITY FOR THE UPKEEP?
•
6/15/2010 - Flying the BP flag ( - Manistee)It may sound really easy to just take down the BP logo but it's not that simple. When you take on a major brand such as BP, Marathon, Mobil or Shell it doesn't come without contracts. Most contracts with major oil are for 10 years. It isn't impossible to get out of them, but it could cost upwards of $70,000 to do so. Don't be so hard on the local businesses who are now "stuck" with BP...
•
6/15/2010 - BP (07Dyna - Gladwin)Yea, quit buying BP so they can GO BROKE and dont have MONEY TO CLEAN UP THE SPILL. Brilliant......but what to you expect from Liberals who cant see the forest for the trees. Did you boycot AMERICAN AIRLINES when the terrorists used them to hit the twin towers with them. We dont know if it was BP's fault, a valve or pipes made by some other mfgs or just what happened.....but you're ready to hang BP AND COST THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN their JOBS?
Refinery workers, truckers, dispatchers, station owners.....and their families?
THINK A LITTLE BIT.

6/15/2010 - Hope-From Harrison-????????? (Hope-Uninformed - Williamsburg)Hope from Harrison stated that B.P. did not cause this incident. Who exactly do you believe is responsible then? Research prior to making a statement such as this.
•
6/15/2010 - Boycott B.P. (Sick about it - Kalkaska)I have also avoided any B.P. stations since this began. I think that locally owned businesses should change their logo. How can anyone conscienciously support a company that has done so much damage? If you watch the news, you will see that they have cut many corners for their own selfish benefit. I will continue my personal strike with this company. FYI-Next Door Food Store in Kalkaska also purchases their fuel from B.P.
•
6/14/2010 - Snacks (Boyne girl - Boyne City)BP not only sells gas. They sell snacks and cigarettes, too. They are also not only sold at BP gas stations either. A lot of party stores (not gas stations) buy their snacks and cigarettes from the BP company and sell them at their store.
•
6/14/2010 - BP (Hope - Harrison)BP did not create that tragedy in the Gulf and now they are struggling to contain it. So boycotting a company and the products they make does not solve the problem. I am sure they are trying their best to come up with a solution. It is really difficult when the leak is at the bottom of the ocean floor. Not like you can just chew some gum and stick it to the leak and expect it to stop and everyone can go home. Be realistic. As for other products they make include Aluminum, Asphalt, Motor Oil and other industrial lubricants.
•
6/14/2010 - B/P gas (clare resident - clare)i make sure it's not B/P gas before i buy and i haven't bought there gas in over a year, cause there gas cost more in this town,Clare.. might only be 1 penny or 2 but that pennies saved in my pocket..it's sad local bussiness are being hurt, maybe they should concider buying gas from a differern't company and changing there name and dropping the gas price alittle..
•
6/12/2010 - Wake up to the damage a boycott will do. (Beth - Hart)If you boycott BP stations you will ruin the livelihood of numerous American small business owners and their employees. Meanwhile BP will sell their products elsewhere in the world.
•
6/12/2010 - Big Oil (Think About It! - Mt. Pleasant)It doesn't matter if you boycott BP stations. Whatever crude oil they don't sell directly as gasoline they will sell off to other oil companies and you will end up buying "BP" oil (gas) through another station not bearing their name. Besides, if you think gas is the only product BP has a hand in, you need to do some research!
•
6/12/2010 - greed (Mike Doohickey - rosco)I totally agree with Jon...I'm sure bp get it's cut from the local distributors pronto. The only thing the big companies understand is $$. The damage in the Gulf is permanent. In my business I buy fuel daily...I have taken my business elsewhere...
•
6/12/2010 - BP is BP at end of the day! (Jon - Gaylord)Think about it people, yes they are locally owned, BUT they buy their fuel from B P ! ! ! Boycott all BP stations and you will send a small message back home!
