Meet Keaton Mater, 12, of Roscommon, the first winner in the Bikes for Kids giveaway happening this summer. Mater’s mom nominated him for the giveaway because he demonstrates strength and wisdom beyond his years when addressing bullies. To describe these encounters, Mater says he tries to calm bullies down and educate them. “I’m different, but kind of the same. Autism is a special power that I have,” he said. “I’m lucky to have it. Not many kids can say that.” The wisdom previously mentioned is apparent in Mater’s memorable words, “Different is always better, no matter who you are.
