International Blood Donor Day Needs Donors

Someone in the U.S. needs blood every two seconds—and blood type matters more than you think.

The has to collect more than 13,000 blood donations every day, with a great need for A’s, B’s and O’s. Thursday, June 14, was International Blood Donor Day, highlighting the need for donors.

The Red Cross says there are fewer donors in the summer months when people travel.

And despite the fact that 45 percent of the U.S. population know someone who has been helped by a blood transfusion, only 3 percent donates each year.

The constant need for blood has led to the , with 40 nationally-recognized brands and 500 local partners in the U.S. allowing the letters A, B and O to disappear from signs, logos and social media accounts to help raise awareness.
