A young widow in Benzie County is turning to the community for help at risk of losing her home.

She says her husband’s death was unexpected and she’s now trying to provide for their four children.

“I was completely shocked,” says Jenny Amrhein, Nathan’s wife. “Our day started April 26, 2017 just as a normal day,”

“He went off to work and planned on meeting us at the Great Wolf Lodge at two p.m.,” says Jenny.

A meeting that never happened.

Instead, Jenny received a call saying her husband Nathan had passed away from a thyroid storm which is a combination of a dangerously high heart rate, body temperature, and blood pressure.

“He left behind four little kids. At the time our daughter was four years old, our son was three, our other son was one, and our baby was five weeks old. Then me, his wife of eight years,” says Jenny.

As many young couples do, Jenny and Nathan bought a home together in 2010.

A home that saw them through their wedding and the birth of their children.

“When we bought the house it was solely in my husband Nathanial’s name and it was financed through a loan through Chemical Bank,” says Jenny.

Now that Nathan’s gone, the bank says they can’t switch the loan to Jenny’s name, forcing her to re-purchase the house.

“If we can’t pay it off it’s at Chemical Bank’s decision to foreclose starting July 2,” says Jenny.

Now this family is looking to the community for help saving their home.

“It would be terrible I would be lost without it. It holds sentimental memories here it’s all we have left pretty much from him,” says Jenny.
