Green Mill Motel Explosion: One Year Later

It’s been one year to the day since the Green Mill Motel exploded in Wexford County.

It’s a story Northern Michigan’s News Leader has been following every step of the way, from the explosion to the charges and sentencing involved and the victims’ recovery.

Investigators say Amanda Skardoutos was making butane hash oil in her room, sparking the explosion that destroyed the motel.

She’s now in prison for six to ten years for child abuse and arson.

The explosion left her sons, Marcus Thomas and Brian Adams, with severe burns.

Brian nearly died.

Since the explosion, the Manton community has come together to help Brian any way they can by hosting several benefits and fundraisers.

Local businesses and Don’s Adopt a Car even donated a car so Brian could get to and from doctor’s appointments, and a local church donated a massage chair to help Brian with his pain.

Brian’s father says the outpouring of support from both loved ones and total strangers has been remarkable.
