Police-Involved Shooting in Midland Leaves Teen Dead
An investigation is underway after an officer-involved shooting in Midland left 16-year-old Jaden Marsh dead.
The Midland Police Department says officers noticed two people breaking into cars around 2 a.m. Monday.
When they tried to confront them, the two teens took off.
At the same time, one of the suspects took a gun out and began firing at the officers.
One of the officers fired back, hitting and killing Marsh.
The other suspect, also 16, was caught and is currently being held in the Midland Juvenile Care Center.
Police also tell us the gun the teen was using to fire at the officers had been reported stolen from a vehicle in Midland on Sunday.
The officer who shot and killed the gunman is now on paid administrative leave, which is standard for an officer-involved shooting.
Todd Marsh, Jaden’s father, says that Jaden had told him he was suicidal hours before he was shot early Monday in Midland. He says his son “was in severe pain but didn’t want to go back to juvenile hall.”
He also said his son had untreated mental health issues.
