National Survey Shows 25 Percent of LGBT Teens Attempted Suicide This Year

A new study shows one in four teens who identify as a lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender are more likely to attempt suicide.

In a national survey, nearly 25 percent of LGBT teens attempted suicide this year.

That’s according to the National Youth Risk Behavior Study published in the Journal of the American Medical association.

Scientists say the study didn’t address what drove teens to consider suicide; however, other studies have linked high levels of stress to social stigma, marginalization, discrimination and being bullied with a wide range of risky health behaviors including suicide.
