Hometown Tourist: State Street Marketplace

If you’re looking for somewhere to get out of the cold of the winter, there’s an indoor marketplace downtown Traverse City that offers up a warm, open air environment.

Hometown Tourist takes us to the to scope out their offerings.

“The State Street Marketplace is a new version of the neighborhood energy to bring in local businesses. We have three local food vendors, we do have a brewery, and we also have two retail spaces,” explained Manager Cait Lewis.

The State Street Market has become an indoor space to share the community.

You’ll find an open air atmosphere with some Traverse City staples.

“Really make it your event or your experience. If you want to order food and a beer, and while you’re waiting for your food, you could do a little shopping,” said Lewis.

There are delicious Mediterranean offerings, or pizzas being fired in the oven and gourmet plates being served up from Wren, the butcher.

“I’ve had pita and hummus a thousand times, but I haven’t had it any better anywhere other than Ziatun.  F-que’s is an additional location from Francisco’s. They opened up here in the marketplace to bring everything Francisco’s has to offer Traverse City downtown. Wren the butcher is a German style cuisine so in that respect Adam is the owner you’ll find him here fulfilling his passion with cooking,” said Lewis.

While you’re waiting for your food there’s lots to do, with no shortage of unique and fun products to check out.

“We have waxwing vintage which is full of great little finds in there, as well as Crafted TC with a lot of Michigan stuff like t-shirts, candles, little crafty things that represent Michigan, so a lot of local experiences here that you can make your own,” said Lewis.

It’s exactly that, a marketplace where you can make your experience complete with tastes of Traverse City or simply make it your own adventure.

“The freedom to move around is what people have enjoyed about the market place. The freedom to do what you want to do, there’s no pressure. I was talking about it this morning with a lady about the fact there’s no pressure,” said Lewis.
