Hook & Hunting: Late Grouse Hunting Season Begins

Firearm season has come to an end, and muzzloading season is wrapping up.

For those of you who still have the itch to hunt, another popular season has opened back up.

Late grouse hunting season has opened up in Michigan and runs from Dec. 1 through Jan. 1.

You are already eligible to hunt grouse in Michigan if you have purchased your base license.

Michigan is expecting around 17,000 non-resident grouse and other upland bird hunters this year.

DNR wildlife technician Katie Keen says it’s a unique hunting experience.

“Most importantly, you don’t have to be quiet, you don’t have to sit still. You can just walk through the woods with friends and family, if you have a dog you can cross a lot of country, you don’t have to get up too early in the morning, so there is a lot of advantages to grouse hunting,” said Keen.
