DETROIT (AP) — A fellow Michigan Democratic congressman is calling on Rep. John Conyers to resign amid sexual harassment allegations. Rep. Dan Kildee told CNN on Thursday it was a difficult decision but that nobody “should tolerate that kind of harassment.” Multiple women who’ve worked for Conyers say he harassed them. He’s denied wrongdoing. Democratic House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan also urged Conyers to resign on Thursday. Conyers’ attorney has rebuffed the calls.
DETROIT (AP) — Federal prosecutors are seeking a 60-year prison sentence for a Michigan sports doctor who was caught with child pornography while under investigation for sexual assault. The U.S. Attorney’s Office in western Michigan says Larry Nassar “poses an immense risk to the community.” Nassar faces sentencing for child porn crimes on Dec. 7. The 54-year-old worked at Michigan State University and at USA Gymnastics, which trains Olympians.
LANSING, Mich. (AP) — The Michigan Pheasant Restoration Initiative is making plans to continue improving habitat for the game bird species in coming years. The initiative seeks federal and state resources to help boost pheasant populations and hunting opportunities on private land _ and in state game and recreation areas. Landowners can take part by forming cooperatives.
DETROIT (AP) — About two dozen companies in Macomb and St. Clair counties will share more than $1.2 million to train their employees. Recipients of the 2018 Skilled Trades Training Fund Awards were announced by Michigan’s Talent Investment Agency. The awards range from $525,000 to about $2,000. Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works says the competitive grant provides an incentive for businesses to hire and train new workers or upgrade the skills of existing employees.
