Northern Michigan in Focus: Fall at the Grand Traverse Resort
It’s safe to say our fall colors are just about over; however, Corey Adkins is going to take us on a trip back one week ago to a place that looks pretty good during autumn.
“With the trees turning color, it gives you a definite different view of the whole place,” said Paul Galligan, Grand Traverse Resort and Spa director of golf courses and maintenance.
The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is one of the most iconic views in Northern Michigan, and it being autumn only makes it better.
“The fall is just pretty. It’s a totally different color out on the property and it brings out the green grass too because the cool season grasses, they like the cool nights and cool days, so greens up quite a bit more, too,” explained Paul.
These views don’t just happen. It takes hundreds of hours from the maintenance crew.
“With all the experience we have, I have been here over 30 years and a lot of my guys of been here over 10 and 20 years, so we understand what’s going on and we know what to expect,” said Paul. “Every once in a while do you have the sun to your back and you’re looking downhill or at the forest with the sun behind you, it is fantastic. What a lot of people don’t get to see is that early morning sunrise and you can see that too and it’s just wonderful very pretty.”
Beautiful, charming, majestic. Thanks to the work of a crew Northern Michigan can be proud of.
“I feel very proud that we’re the department that maintains that. Every person that stops on this property sees the work that my guys do and that makes us proud knowing that people can look around and enjoy it and hey, were up north and we’re here, we arrived and that’s a fantastic thing,” said Paul.
