Michelle Dunaway Completes 40+ Mile Walk As Ronald McDonald Families Cheers Her On
An emotional finish for our very own Michelle Dunaway.
She walked 47 miles and with your helped raised more than $15,000.
All the money will go to support the free services at the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan.
Michelle started Thursday morning from the McDonald’s on South Airport Road.
Close to 15 hours later she arrived at the McDonald’s in Cadillac on Boon Road.
In the last four years 1,000 families from northern Michigan and U.P. stayed at the Ronald McDonald house.
“It was worth every step.”
A 47 mile walk from Traverse City to Cadillac where every step is filled with purpose.
Raising money for the Ronald McDonald House of Western Michigan.
Michelle Dunaway says, “It was a lot harder than I thought, but it was well worth it and I just hope that we can raise as much money as possible to help these families because they’re really special and they’re dealing with so much that no parent should have to deal with.”
Families like the Gillis family who live in Traverse City but in 2015 called the Ronald McDonald House home.
Anders Gillis says, “You don’t really think about it until you really need it and when you really need it you really do.”
His wife Amanda says, “It’s just such a special place I mean it was a home for us for 10 months when our home was way too far from the hospital. It gave us a place to stay and not just that, but a place that really felt like home.”
Their 10-month-old daughter Elin passed away in December 2015.
This walk means the world to their family and reminds them of how special it feels for everyone to come together.
Anders Gillis says, “What this walk symbolizes for me is going from Traverse City all the way to Cadillac, western Michigan and the Ronald McDonald House is all about the community and realizing yes we are connected. When you’re there there’s one Northern Michigan family after another rolling into the door because of the great care.”
Originally, the goal was to raise $15,000, but thanks to the community we’ve raised more than that so we’ve bumped up the goal to $25,000. You can donate here until Saturday September 30.
