Jack’s Journal: Parallel Parking

I’ve always heard peoples’ No. 1 fear is public speaking. I contend parallel parking is a close No. 2!

Let’s face it, for everyone to watch, you attempt to back into that tight spot!

People leave cars in all sorts of crazy angles and distances from the curb, that is if they try!

How often have you tried once and then just drove away? I thought I’d ask an expert: a driving instructor!

“Yes, I’ve been called the legend in the past,” said Mark Ingraham, All Star Driving.

I consider myself a fair parallel parker, but I have agreed to follow Mark’s instruction, and he even sang me the parallel parking song!

With that inspiration, what is the secret to parallel parking?

“You line up back bumper to back bumper. Put car in reverse. As soon as the car starts moving backwards, in your head say 1.Whip that wheel as fast as you can to the right, keeping your speed slow, foot over the break.  Once your mirror clears the back bumper of that vehicle, you whip it fast to the left.  That front end will drop in perfect, every single time,” explained Mark.

Mark also reminds when you spot the parking space you want, turn on that blinker to inform cars behind you to hold on and give me room!
