“It’s pretty amazing to see this group of volunteers,” said Terry Hawn.

Volunteers continue to pour into Texas to help people devastated by Hurricane Harvey.

Many hold other prestigious titles, like colonels or commanders, but in situations like this, they put their titles aside for an organization called RAM.

“Remote Area Medical our specialty is a lot of medical clinics in the United States, but also international refugee and rescue relief,” said Terry.

Among them are retired U.S. Army Lt. Col Terry Hawn from Traverse City and Lt. Commander Todd Hansen, a member of his medical team working tirelessly to get people and animals care they can’t go without.

“It’s really what people need. So in some ways I was working as a doc in some ways I was working to help clean the ER because the cleaning staff can’t get in. It’s kind of whatever they needed,” Todd said.

While work is nowhere near done volunteers, some even victims of Harvey themselves, refuse to give up.

“The situation is still pretty bleak. But the benefit is that the community is definitely coming together and we are starting to get a lot of assets so it’s starting to look a lot better,” Terry said.

“Overwhelmingly the number of people who are looking outwards and trying to help others it’s just humbling it really is. That really is the most profound thing I’ve seen since I’ve been here,” Todd said.
