Mesick Community Shaken Up After Deadly Hit And Run

The search continues for the driver who hit and killed a man on this stretch of road in Mesick. 
It happened around 9 Saturday night on West Mesick Avenue just west of South Alvin Street. 
Wexford County deputies say a driver hit a man who got out of a vehicle and then took off. 

That man later died at the hospital. 

"It was so bad you know I felt so bad that it happened," said Rakesh Gupta.

It was your normal Saturday night in Mesick, people unwinding after another work week. But around 9 a gut wrenching noise rang out through town. 

"We were just standing outside and I was talking to somebody all of a sudden we heard a big noise like someone hit a car probably car collided with car I didn’t see anyone besides that," Rakesh said. 

"I heard the noise and I thought someone’s car door got hit because it appeared they just arrived but I looked over and there was a body laying there," said Matthew Oliver. 

Witnesses were in disbelief at what they saw: a man hit as he got out of a car. Even worse, the driver responsible didn’t stop. 

"It appeared they didn’t even stop or care they just kept going. They had to have known they it, they had to," Matthew said.  

The man was pronounced dead at the hospital . Those who saw what happened say those moments remain fresh in their minds. 

"Even in the night when I was sleeping I kept remembering all the scenes," Rakesh said.

"My condolences to family for certain. It certainly was a tragedy," Matthew said. 

The victims identity has not been released. 

Deputies say they’re looking for a dark SUV or a white sedan. If you have any information call the Wexford County Sheriff’s Department.
