Sault Ste. Marie Students Work With Assisted Living Residents On Garden Project

One garden, two ends of the age spectrum.

A project that is a win-win for all involved.

For two years now, students from JKL Bahweting School in Sault Ste. Marie team up with residents at Hearthside Assisted Living on a garden project.

From planting the seeds in spring, to taking care of the plants in the summer, the young and young at heart beautify the courtyard.

It’s as exciting for the young students as it is for the residents.

“To learn and, who is like a sponge, and is like "oh my gosh, I can’t wait to tell my mom that you showed me how to do this.  It does, it gives them a sense of pride,” Wendy Pearce, Hearthside Assisted Living said.

Another part of the program includes the students sitting down with the residents and reading books to them.
