Massive Freighter Still Stuck in St. Marys River
A massive freighter is still stuck in the St. Marys River.
There are other vessels waiting for the Calumet to move.
All of these vessels are carrying tons of raw materials that the nation needs to operate.
The Calumet grounded near Sugar Island late Wednesday night.
Everyone’s OK. Its owner is now figuring out how to move it.
The vessel had just left Soo, Ontario, and was en route to its next port.
It wasn’t carrying any cargo and there are no signs of any pollution.
It’s a unique opportunity to see lots of freighters all at once.
The river remains closed to commercial vessels from the locks to 6 Mile Point.
We’ll let you know when and if any movement happens up there.
UPDATE: It was freed Friday around 7:30 p.m.
