UPDATE: Apartment Fire, No Injuries, Downtown Petoskey

A fire sparked at a 12 unit apartment building in downtown Petoskey on Thursday afternoon.

No one was injured, but the building sustained heavy smoke, water and heat damage.

Firefighters let residents through the front door to get any essential items. It is unclear how long it will be before they can move back in.

We know the fire started in the first floor apartment closest to the road, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Around 12 people were inside at the time of the fire, one of those residents tell us they all yelled and helped making sure everyone got out safely.

Firefighters from Petoskey Public Safety were able to put the fire out in about an hour.

The Salvation Army and Red Cross are providing food, clothing and lodging for residents tonight.
