The 40-year-old Easling Pool at the Grand Traverse Bay Central YMCA is need of some updates, and soon there will be a fundraising campaign to make it happen.
On Aug. 19, the Civic Center will open for live music, games and a dunk tank.
It will help raise money for improvements to the pool, like replacing the deck, installing a new liner and filtration system, as well as celebrating the addition of a new playground.
It’s all being spearheaded by the Friends of Easling Pool.
"It’s really wonderful that there are people out there who recognize it and want to support, like I said, the geographical treasures, the riches that we have and make it possible for people from outside our community to enjoy them as well. I feel utterly grateful,” said Kristine Erickson, Grand Traverse Parks and Recreation director.
The fundraising will continue for about the next year.
So far, it’s already raised $100,000 toward the $625,000 goal.
