Primary Election Held In UP For Vacant 109th District State House Seat

We’re following a primary election in the Upper Peninsula, to fill the seat of former State Representative John Kivela.

Kivela was found dead after a drunk driving arrest in May.

One Republican and four Democrats are running in Tuesday’s state primaries.

TV marketing executive, Rich Rossway is running as the Republican candidate.

Marquette City Commissioner Sara Cambensy, Limestone Township Supervisor Tom Curry, Marquette County Commissioner Joe Derocha and Jeremy Hosking a former regional manager for Senator Debbie Stabenow are running as the Democrat candidates.

Tuesday’s outcome will determine who advances to November’s general election in the 109th District to serve the remainder of Kivela’s term.
