President Trump To Be Briefed On Opioid Crisis

President Trump is taking steps to help stop the opioid epidemic.

The issue was one of his major campaign promises.

The Health and Human Services secretary will brief the president on the opioid crisis Tuesday.

The president’s plan for tackling the problem remains unclear.

In his budget, he’s asked for $10.7 billion for drug treatment.

That’s a $200 million increase.

However, it also cuts nearly $170 million from abuse prevention.

Recent reports show more than half a million people have died of drug overdoses, mostly from opioids, from the year 2000 to 2015.
