Manistee Police Investigating Homicide Following Deadly Stabbing

People on a Manistee street found out the shocking result of an early morning commotion. Police say a man died after being stabbed in a home.

Police responded to the home and found a man with stab wounds around 5 Tuesday morning.

They were called to the home on the 300 block of 4th Street, and have been there investigating all day.

“I could hear screaming coming from the kitchen window, and I didn’t really know what was going on until later I heard the sirens,” said Carol Dumas.

Police arrived to find a man in the home with stab wounds.

They tried to save him, but he died.

Right now, it’s unclear what happened inside the home.

“The cops were knocking on my door. I didn’t know, so I was, like, ‘who is this?’ and then they are, like, it’s the state police, and then I looked out the door and they’re, like, ‘something happened with your neighbors, we didn’t know if you heard anything,’” explained neighbor Angela Staffeld.

Police arrested a woman living in the home.

Neighbors say the two living there were married with kids.

“I feel the worst for the kids, because it’s my son’s friend and how do you explain something like that to a kid that age?” said neighbor Gregory Staffeld. “I think about if it were something to happen to my son or my young daughter. Something like this, it’s scary for them being their friend, I can’t imagine for the kids that are involved.

The situation has been hard for neighbors to take in.

“We’re just a really close-knit neighborhood. Everyone in this neighborhood kind of looks out for everybody. We have kids running around here,” explained Gregory.

Angela added, “I’m saddened for them. I’ll be praying for them and hoping the best for the kids, especially. It’s not going to be easy for them.”

The investigation is still open.
