Houghton Lake Woman Saved By Passerby After Garage Catches Fire
“Someone was banging on my window. He says get out! There’s a fire!"
The help of a passerby may have saved a Houghton Lake woman’s life after a fire started ripping through her garage.
The homeowner told Northern Michigan’s News Leader that she was just waking up from a nap when she smelled smoke.
The house fire rescue happened just west of Tower Hill Road on West Emery Road — south of Houghton Lake.
Lucille Corson says Jack Krammer knocked on her window and got her to safety as smoke filled her home.
He called 9-1-1 — and vanished.
Several fire departments arrived to find flames shooting through the roof of her attached garage, but thanks to Jack, Lucille says she is alright.
“I don’t know what I would have done without him,” Corson says. “What would have happened if he hadn’t come by? I’m thankful for that help. I appreciate him so very much and I thank God."
Fire crews say the house is salvageable.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
