The Alpena County Sheriff’s Office is hoping to move on to the next step in getting a new jail.
Part of the 60-year-old building is falling apart.
The sheriff’s office says asbestos was found there earlier this year.
Tuesday night a county committee will meet to figure out where to possibly build a new jail.
The sheriff’s office is proposing a 60,000-65,000 square foot building that could cost $10-12 million.
Voters would then vote on a millage proposal in November.
