West Front Street Construction Begins; Prepare for Detours
You may want to plan extra time for the next couple months if your commute involves West Front Street in Traverse City.
You can except detours until October 20 for road, sidewalk, watermain and storm sewer reconstruction.
West Front Street will be closed for everyone except local traffic between Cedar Run Road and Elmwood Avenue.
It will be closed completely between Elmwood Avenue and Division Street.
You will still be able to get to businesses and homes from side streets and alleys.
9&10’s Whitney Amann has been talking to local businesses about how they plan to handle the construction.
Businesses tell us when they got in Monday morning at 9, they couldn’t believe how much work was already done.
They have already started work on Front Street.
Businesses like Ace Hardware have added signs, mirrors and cones to make it easier for customers to navigate their way in and out of the parking lot.
Honest Eyes Optical have offered a special promotion to their customers, and plan to continue more promotions.
The businesses in this area are working together and really looking out for each other to get through the next two and a half months.
“It will be great for the neighborhood, it will be great for the city and for now we just got to deal with it and not complain about it but work with each other to make it a manageable situation, so yeah we’re going to do the best we can,” Rick Andrews, co-owner, Honest Eyes Optical said.
Businesses hope the community continues to support them and we have even seen people walking quite a distance to get to the stores, so it looks like they are off to a good start.
The construction is scheduled to be completed by October 20, but we will keep you updated if there are any changes.
