Crystal Lake Yacht Club Hosts 88th WMYA Championship Regatta
Wednesday is the start of the 88th Annual Western Michigan Yachting Association’s Championship Regatta.
Every year the location rotates between six lakes and this year it’s at Crystal Lake Yacht Club in Frankfort.
The event is open to anyone who wants to sail.
More than 160 boats are registered, but with participants as young as six years old and as experienced as 85 years old they’re expecting crowds in the 200s.
Although this is a competition, it’s the memories shared that brings people year after year.
Commodore Michael Terry says, “The sailing is almost secondary in many regards, a lot of the people that show up to this regatta have been friends for years and I’m talking some of us decades. Some of these sailors I sailed against when I was 10 and 12 years old.”
The regatta ends Saturday at Crystal Lake Yacht Club.
