Rendezvous in the Sault Celebrates Areas Rich History

An event celebrating the history of an Upper Peninsula city.

The 5th annual Rendezvous in the Sault is going on all weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.

It’s a living history event that brings together nearly 150 re-enactors from Canada and the Great Lakes area for demonstrations on military and civilian life from the mid 1600’s to the mid-1800’s.

There are also musicians, entertainers, and merchants as part of the program.

The re-enactors say this is a great way to pass on the rich history of the area.

“We’re playing a trick on you.  You come in and you think we are entertaining you showing you stuff, letting you touch things and do things, but when you leave, you are smarter than when you came,” said Harry Burgess, a French Marine.

The event continues Sunday with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m. and ends with a battle reenactment at 2:30 p.m.
