Sailors from All Over Coming to Harbor Springs for the Ugotta Regatta

Sailboats from all over the country are making their way to Northern Michigan for a very special weekend out on the water.

The 57th annual Ugotta Regatta kicks off Friday night at the Little Traverse Yacht Club in Harbor Springs.

All weekend, sailors from all over will compete in various races in Little Traverse Bay. The event brings hundreds of spectators to the area every year.

On Friday night participants will enjoy a welcome to Harbor Springs celebration.

The yacht club says it’s something people near the area won’t want to miss.

“When you see 80 sailboats out there on the water it’s absolutely gorgeous, especially when you call it a downwind leg, when they get to put up their spinnakers, it’s a lot of excitement. As some people might say the pretty colored sails, it’s a gorgeous sight to see that out there,” says Little Traverse Yacht Club Vice Commodore Jack Carruthers

Saturday at the regatta sailors will compete in the “Tour of the Bay,” the first long distance race of the regatta.
