Former NMC Employee Accused Of Embezzling Thousands From The College

A woman working at Northwestern Michigan College is accused of stealing more than $9,000.

Traverse City Police say they’ve been investigating this since April, charges were filed this week.

Court documents state Michelle Schneider was given a credit card while working at NMC in May 2015.

An audit revealed that she was using the card for trips to Las Vegas, Ohio and Florida, classes at Davenport College and car repairs.

Traverse City Police Chief Jeff O’Brien says, “Anytime you have a public official that steals from the public or tax dollars than it just a little bit more disheartening more discerning because we expect public servants to have trust with public money.”

Schneider did reimburse some of the money once let go from the college. 

Schneider is charged with embezzling more than $1,000, but less than $20,000 by an agent or trustee.
