Elderly Emmet County Woman Found Safe, Rescued By Coast Guard

A happy ending in the search for an 84 year-old Emmet County woman.

She was rescued Tuesday morning

Nancy Berger was reported missing in the Oden Island area on Monday evening, she was spotted by the Coast Guard a little after 9 am Tuesday morning.

They found her on the north side of Oden Island, ankle deep in water.

Berger has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.

She went for a walk last night didn’t return.

Michigan State Police, search and rescue teams, and the Coast Guard searched for more than 12 hours before finding her.

Family, friends and neighbors are relieved to hear she is doing okay.

“I’m glad it’s all worked out and I’m glad she’s healthy, and that she could survive that long in the woods. I don’t know how she did it, but I’m glad she did,” said Neighbor Alice Reisig

After being rescued, Berger was taken to the hospital where she was treated for mild hypothermia.
