Hoarding Investigation Leads To Removal of 113 Cats From Downstate Home

A hoarding investigation led to 113 cats being taken from a downstate home.

The cats were found in Athens, in Calhoun County, Thursday.

Investigators say their owner was overwhelmed trying to care for them.

The cats were found in different states of health.

They will all be evaluated by a veterinarian and are not in a condition where they’ll be available for adoption immediately.

The house itself had to be evacuated because of high levels of ammonia.

The Athens home was also ventilated overnight to bring high levels of methane gas down to within normal range.

The woman could face charges.
