Sault Ste. Marie Becomes Michigan Main Street Partner

More than four years of hard work paying off for one Northern Michigan city.

The paperwork started in 2013 and Thursday, Sault Ste. Marie officially became a Michigan Main Street partner.

National representatives of the Main Street Program met with community members and leaders to explain what this means.

Ideas and plans were introduced to improve the quality of the downtown district.

$50,000 will be invested in the Soo for each of the next five years.

The money will be used for technical and consultant services.

“For us to go from doing well to amazing, we needed to have that outside expertise, we needed to have people that could look at where our weaknesses were, where our strengths are, and say okay, we want you to focus on this for the next five years,” Justin Knepper, DDA director said.

More than 70 people attended the meeting.
