TNT Arrest Detroit Men After Drug Bust, TC Addiction Center Sees Need to Expand

A Grand Traverse County home was searched by Traverse Narcotics detectives early Tuesday morning.

Inside – a lot of drugs and cash.

Traverse Narcotics Team detectives received an anonymous tip about drug activity Monday night.

Information from a traffic stop led them to a home off M-37 in Blair Township.

9&10’s Caroline Powers and photojournalist Jeremy Erickson have more details on the investigation and how Addiction Treatment Services are responding to the drug program.

“In my opinion, based upon my experience, it’s pretty clear cut that the men that were apprehended by TNT were involved in chemical drug distribution activity,” says Lt. Kip Belcher, Michigan State Police Task Force Commander.

An anonymous tip and quick investigation led to the arrest of two Detroit men early Tuesday morning.

“The investigation probably wouldn’t have been able to unfold and take place and be successful in its entirety without that piece of citizen information that came in,” says Lt. Belcher.

Investigators say they found a lot of drugs in the home.

“Recovery of just under two ounces of crack cocaine, a quantity of heroin, two electronic measuring scales that are utilized to weigh these particular substances for sale purposes, and about 3,000 dollars in cash,” Lt. Belcher says.

Addiction Treatment Services says a variety of drugs are making their way into the area.

“A bust like this seems to be probably reflective of the market that is here and is reflective of this tragic epidemic that is happening,” says Chris Hindbaugh, executive director of Addiction Treatment Services.

With the growing drug problem in the area, Addiction Treatment Services has seen the need to expand. They’ll soon be offering new services, in a bigger building, that will allow them to help around 150 patients a day.

“It is 10,000 square feet and it will house our administration, the health clinic, as well as our intensive outpatient programming and case management as well,” says Hindbaugh. “There is a huge need and we’re just happy that people at least are seeking help, but if we can get to them before they need treatment, that’s our ultimate goal.”

Both men are being held in the Grand Traverse County jail.

One man has been arrested by TNT before.

We will release their names and mug shots after they are arraigned.
