Northern Michigan Road Commissions Preparing for Heavy Snowfall

Gusty winds, cold temperatures and lake effect snow are just getting started here in Northern Michigan.

And it’s just the beginning to what has local road commissions preparing to make sure drivers stay safe.

The Kalkaska County Road Commission has been out since early Thursday morning preparing to keep roads safe for drivers throughout the next couple days.

To prepare, John Rogers, head of the Kalkaska road commission says crews are equipping their trucks with wings to help them shovel more snow at once.

They’re also making a sand and salt mixture to spread across the roads to help add some texture for slippery conditions.
