Traverse City Turkey Trot Raises Money For Local Community

Early Thanksgiving morning families got a head start to the Thanksgiving season at the annual Up North Media Turkey Trot in Traverse City.

For many it’s a unique Thanksgiving tradition that allows them to give back to their community.

Every year trotters raise thousands for Traverse City Area Public Schools, TART Trails and Cherryland Humane Society.

While the races give them a chance to shed some pounds before they pile their plates it’s the community impact that motivates them to get up early Thanksgiving Day.

Ben LaCross ran with his wife and son and says, “This is such a great community event to see thousands of neighbors from around Traverse City you run into so many people here it’s just such a heartwarming event to know that all the money raised here goes to charity so it gives you a good feeling going into the thanksgiving season.”

This year the Traverse City Turkey Trot had one of its biggest turn out with 2,300 racers.
