Charlevoix Turkey Trot Collects Food for Local Food Pantries

Before everyone gets to eating, runners and walkers came out to burn some calories and collect food for people in need.

Munson Healthcare Charlevoix Hospital kicked off Thanksgiving morning with their 6th Annual 5K Turkey Trot.

They asked participants to bring in a non-perishable food item to also help the local food pantries.

People came from near and far to make a loop around downtown Charlevoix.

Some even came out dressed to impress in Turkey Day style.

For some families, it’s a tradition to get out for a run before sitting down to say thanks.

"It’s always nice to come up here from downstate and see some family and of course do the Turkey Trot," a runner Dalton Greyerbiehl said. "You have to earn your dinner tonight."

About 100 people came out for the run Thanksgiving morning.
